Getting There

Tourists are advised not to accept offers from locals who offer to carry your luggage, as they will either charge you for the service or make off with your things.

Two companies officially licensed by the Cancún Airport to provide transportation to the hotels in Cancún or the Riviera Maya are Gray Line and T.T.A. and selling booths for both can be found right after the Customs Service. The prices for transportation through these companies are fixed by the airport and are non-negotiable. You can opt for shuttle service or private transfer. Other transportation companies offer transfer services to and from the airport as well.

Travelers can also drive or take the bus from Mexico City to Cancún.

Getting Around

It is very easy even for tourists to get around Cancún. Buses are the less expensive mode of transportation; however, not all buses have air conditioning or even seat cushions. Tourists should be careful especially in cramped buses because pick-pocketing is a common occurrence.

Taxis are another, albeit more expensive, option for transportation, especially in the hotel zone and the airport. In order to avoid confusion and misunderstanding with the fare, it is best to ask the driver prior to boarding. If you feel like the driver is charging for too much, you can choose to look for another one since taxis are generally plentiful.

Car rentals are also available in Cancún for those who feel comfortable enough to drive around in the area.

Peter’s Restaurant is a small, cozy restaurant that features a menu that includes international and Mexican fare. Personal service by the Dutch Chef Peter Houben, his wife Claudia and their son Eder makes one feel at home and the outstanding food are the reasons why people keep coming back for more. The restaurant also offers a small but good wine list. It is open for lunch and dinner, and takes reservations and walk-ins.

Trattoria La Veneziana Da Bertilla serves authentic Italian food such as pasta and pizza and features a wine bar. It is ideal for families with children, couples, and is the perfect setting for special occasions and doing business. It offers a warm and cozy atmosphere, and the personal service by the owner, her husband and Chef and their son makes customers feel like they are part of the Italian family.

La Tranquita Bar and Grill is the best place to go for families or groups of friends for excellent Argentine style meat or pasta. It offers a cozy and friendly atmosphere, affordable but very good meals and superb service.

La Destileria is open from 1PM until midnight and serves some of the most authentic Mexican dishes in the hotel zone and such drinks as Tequila Jade, Banana Maya, Luces de la Habana, Margarita Love and much more.

Laguna Grill serves seafood, steak and pasta with a contemporary twist. Customers will feel close to nature in this restaurant with a lush tropical garden entrance, and a small flowing creek that traverses the restaurant. Tables and chairs are made from trunks of trees. Next door, the Lounge Bar Trágara serves a wide variety of wine and liquors.

O Ultra Club & Terrace offers a very sleek club scene reminiscent of the clubs in New York City.
