There are quite a number of Italian restaurants in Dallas, Texas. In fact, most of them claim to be the best in the neighborhood. More often than not, however, their food and place in general, cannot support that claim. Thus, the next time an Italian restaurant introduces itself as the best in the area, people cannot help but doubt it until they try it.
One Italian restaurant does stand above the rest in Dallas and this is called Lucia. It is a chef-owned restaurant serving Italian cuisine, hand crafted salumi and fresh pasta made on a daily basis. David Uygur, owner and chef is a creative genius when it comes to creating sumptuous and unique meals. In fact, the menu at Lucia changes frequently simply because Uygur doesn’t want to do the same thing over and over again. He also keeps his menu selection short but with servings that are quite large. At any given time, the there are about 8 to 10 antipasti, 6 pirmi, 5 secondi and 5 dolci. And since the menu changes frequently, it is hard to have just one favorite. Each dish is served in an elegant fashion complementing its superb taste.
This tiny Italian restaurant seats about 36 persons. The interior is done in a simple and minimalist way. The décor is very reflective of an Italian trattoria. It has wooden chairs and tables, and a bar with hanging lights. The ambiance is cozy, warm and welcoming. It also has large windows overlooking the street outside. They have chairs and tables outdoors as well. Some would even say that dining at Lucia is like dining in a friend’s house. Getting a seat is not that easy. You should definitely call in way in advance to make a reservation.
Another thing that makes this unpretentious restaurant a crowd favorite is its staff. Guests only have high praises for the staff. They don’t just stand there and ask for your order, they tell you what each dish is made out of. They are attentive and helpful without being intrusive.
The next time you happen to be in the Bishop Arts district, drop by at Lucia and experience a great Italian meal.
