In the midst of NoHo neighborhood in Bleecker St., New York is a charming, little lounge known for its unorthodox take on gin and cocktails. Madam Geneva looks unassuming from the outside but wait until you set your foot inside because there is nothing modest about it – from the leather seats, dark walls, dim lighting that sets the ambiance and wood paneled ceiling.
The interior is inspired by the British Empire of Singapore, China and India. The bar itself is made of wood with ambient lighting that spells cozy and welcoming, a place where one can definitely unwind after a long day at work.
So, what’s so special about Madam Geneva aside from the interior and lighting design? Well, it’s the way they reinvented gin and cocktail drinking. What makes their cocktails and gin special is the way they mixed it with homemade jam. You’ve got to see and taste it for yourself. This is a place where you shouldn’t order your usual, normal drink but instead take a little adventure and order their specialty gin and jam cocktails.
Among Madam Geneva’s selection are wines by glass, beers and jelly-mixed cocktails including gin and jam. There’s also a wide selection of top shelf liquor for your enjoyment. It is moderately priced so everyone can actually have a drink or two.
Some people would even describe this place as a “gin haven”, a place where your ordinary gin is turned into something extraordinary. The way the cocktails/gin is mixed with jam gives it a twist no one would have even imagined.
Some of their featured gin cocktails are:
Madam’s Preserve with Gin: combination of beefeater gin, lemon, pear and ginger preserve
Rangpur Gimlet: combination of Tanqueray Rangpur gin and fresh Lime cordial
Aviation: combination of Plymouth gin, Maraschino Liquor and crème de violette
Madam’s French 75: combination of Bombay Sapphire gin, lemon,
fresh tangerine, almond syrup and sparkling wine.
Other favorites include: Hayman’s Old Tom Gin, Anchor Genevieve Genever, DH Krahn Gin, Black Rose and One Night Stand among others. People who come here have their own favorite.
Madam Geneva also offers small plate menu of food that will surely complement your choice of gin cocktail. Menu creation combines pub grub and Asian street food.
Another interesting fact about Madam Geneva is its “secret door”. This lounge is adjacent to Double Crown. A restaurant owned by the same group who owns Madam Geneva, Double Crown features culinary influence between Britain and the Southeast Asia, which includes Singaporean dishes and much more. Being adjacent to one another, you can easily access Madam Geneva from Double Crown without even going out the front door; thus, the “secret door”. It is so convenient for you and your friends to have dinner at Double Crown then sneak into the secret door and enjoy the rest of the night having jam-based cocktails.
