Visa Requirements for Canada Passport Holders – Botswana (Republic of Botswana)

Canadian passport holders traveling to Botswana are not obliged to obtain a visa for entering the country, unless the Minister of Labor and Home Affairs has directed otherwise. Botswana has also signed visa exclusion agreements with a number of countries, exempting their nationals from a requirement to get an entry visa.

Requirements for visa application:

For Tourist Visa:
Canadian passport holders do not need a visa to enter Botswana for tourism, and may stay up to 90 days.

For Business Visa:
Canadian passport holders do not need a visa to enter Botswana for business, and may stay up to 90 days.

However, if travelers visiting Botswana are intending to stay for a period of more than three months, they must apply before entering Botswana to the Chief Immigration Officer, P. O. Box 942, Gaborone, with telephone number (267) 361-1300.

Passport: Passports valid for at least six months.

Visas: Not required by all nationals for stays of up to 90 days except the following:

Nationals of Bulgaria
Czech Republic
Estonia
Hungary
Latvia
Lithuania
Poland
Romania
Slovak Republic
Slovenia

And transit passengers (continuing their journey by the same or first connecting aircraft without leaving the airport)

Entry visas obtained at border posts are only valid for 30 to 90 days, although travelers may obtain extensions from any immigration office in Botswana. Visitors are generally not allowed to stay for more than 90-days in every calendar year, unless permission has been granted in the form of a waiver pending the outcome of a residence permit application.

For other visitors to Botswana:

  • A Completed immigration supplementary Form D or Visa form.
  • A Letter of support from your host.
  • Two identical passport size photographs
  • Fee of P500.00 (around USD 72.00)
  • A Return visa or residence permit from traveler’s country of residence.
  • Return air ticket
  • A Confirmation letter from the country if the person is coming for business purposes

For Employment:

  • Waiver from Labor and Immigration department
  • A Copy of acknowledgment slip for residence permit application.
