Different countries have different conditions that travelers must meet in order for them to be allowed entry or passage through the area or territory. These countries have the right to determine if they will allow foreigners to enter or stay in their country. Usually to be allowed entry to a territory, a traveler must obtain an entry visa and will need to get a residence permit or other permits for studying or working in the country. There are certain countries that do not require other citizens from other countries to get visas to enter and stay in their territory. Usually, they only need to have a valid passport from their country of origin.
Canadian citizens who have passports that are valid for at least six months are not required to get visas if they plan on travelling to Ecuador. They will be allowed to stay in Ecuador for 90 days without the need for a visa. Their passport will be stamped with a departure date on the day they arrive in the country. They must not stay in Ecuador past the departure date indicated in their passport.
If a Canadian passport holder wants to stay in Ecuador for a period exceeding 90 days, they will need to get a visa or extension from the Ecuadorian Foreign Affairs Ministry. If they are travelling into Ecuador by land through Cambodia, they must register at the border with the Ecuadorian Immigration officers on duty.
Canadian passport holders who fail to get a visa or extension, or overstay in Ecuador will be deported. They will not be allowed entry into Ecuador in the next nine months and their names will be included in Ecuadorian Immigrations watch list.
Before travelling to Ecuador, Canadian citizens should check for security warnings and alerts that the Canadian government may have issued regarding safety and security in Ecuador.
