Slovakia is party to the Schengen Agreement, and as such, Canadians are allowed to enter the country without visas for stays of a maximum of 90 days. Canadian passports will be required of Canadian citizens. The passport must be valid for at least 3 months past the expected departure date from Slovakia. Additionally, Canadians must also be in possession of evidence of sufficient financial means to support their stay in Slovakia, return or onward airline tickets of funds to cover the cost of a return trip and proof of health insurance valid in Slovakia.
Canadian travelers staying in private accommodations must register with the nearest local police within 3 working days of their arrival. Hotel guests are automatically registered when they check-in.
Those intending to remain in Slovakia for more than 90 days are mandated to obtain a temporary residence permit. For this, Canadians will need to bring a criminal record check by the RCMP (authenticated by Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada and the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Ottawa) and this document should be no more than 90 days old upon submission.
