Visa Requirements for Canada Passport Holders – Thailand (Kingdom of Thailand)

Canadian citizens can be issued visas on arrival; for stays of up to 15 days when entering by land or for stays of up to 30 days when entering by air. However, they will need to present Canadian passports with validity exceeding their length of stay by 6 months. Additionally, their passports should be in good condition, and they must also possess return or onward tickets.

Visitors to Thailand are only allowed to stay up to the date indicated on the Thai entry stamp, regardless of the date indicated on the Thai visa. They should take careful note of the exit date on the stamp so as not to overstay illegally. Random checks on foreigners have increased and anyone found to be staying too long without the proper authority may be detained and deported at their own expense.

All foreigners are warned to avoid employing the services of visa shops, travel agents or private companies offering visa extension services. There have been reports of arrested foreigners, including Canadians, for having improper Thai visas or entry and exit stamps in their passports. Anyone caught with illegally altered passports face jail sentences, fines and/or deportation and possible prohibition from entering Thailand again.

The Thai Immigration Bureau must be notified of residence every 90 days by any foreign national staying in Thailand for longer than 3 months.

Those intending to stay in Thailand for a longer period of time, or to work or study should obtain the proper visas from a Royal Thai Embassy or Consulate before their planned trip. Canadians should verify visa and entry requirements by contacting:
