Canadians are allowed to enter Egypt only if they are able to present a visa. It is highly recommended that Canadian travelers obtain a visa from an Egyptian embassy or consulate prior to traveling to avoid the possibility of being refused entry or delays upon arrival in the country. Those intending to stay for longer than 1 month, who have secured their visa from an Egyptian embassy outside of Egypt, are advised that a 30-day visa will be stamped on their passport upon arrival at the airport, regardless of the visa that was granted to them. It is the traveler’s responsibility to renew this visa every 30 days, or they will be fined accordingly.
There are 3 types of Egyptian visas issued by the Egyptian authorities:
- Tourist Visa – generally valid for a period of no more than 3 months and may be granted on either a single or multiple entry basis.
- Entry Visa – is required for foreigners traveling to Egypt for non-tourism purposes, such as work or study, etc. Possession of this visa is required in order to complete the residence procedure in Egypt.
- Transit Visa
Canadian passport holders are required to present a return or onward airline ticket and sufficient financial resources for the duration of the stay in the country.
Generally, all foreigners intending to stay and study or work in Egypt for more than 1 month are required to undergo HIV testing in Egypt. If arriving from an infected area, evidence of a yellow fever vaccination must also be presented.
