A visa is not required of Canadian citizens when traveling to France, provided that they will only stay for no more than 90 days. A Canadian passport, valid for at least 3 months beyond the date of expected departure from France would have to be presented, along with a return or onward ticket.
Canadians who wish to travel to France for employment or study purposes, however, would need to secure the appropriate visa from the consulate general of France in Canada prior to departure.
Those who will be staying in France for more than 90 days are required to be in possession of a passport that is valid for 3 months beyond the expiration of the visa. A long-stay visa should be obtained for this purpose prior to departure from Canada. Individuals who have been issued a long-stay visa must then apply for temporary residence permits with the local prefecture or the French Office for Immigration and Integration in their area of residence, within 8 days of their arrival.
