Canadian citizens who intend to visit Japan for tourism or business are not required to secure a visa to enter the country. However, if in the course of the business trip the traveler will be compensated on top of the regular salary, he or she is required to obtain a visa. The Japanese government permits all Canadian travelers a maximum of 90 days stay in the country without a visa. Those who overstay will be deported and may be barred from re-entering the country.
All Canadians traveling to Japan must be in possession of a passport with validity that will exceed the intended duration of the trip. Immigration officers at the Japan airport will also require travelers to present a roundtrip or onward airline ticket, proof of sufficient funds for the duration of the trip and confirmed hotel or accommodation arrangement. Failure to do so may result in deportation or delays.
Students who wish to pursue further studies in Japan must consult with the Japanese Embassy or Consulate Office for visa requirements.
