Visa Requirements for Philippine Passport Holders – Hungary (Republic of Hungary)

The Republic of Hungary is a member of the Schengen agreement, which is composed of 25 European countries and states. Other members are Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland. People who would like to travel to countries part of the Schengen agreement are usually required to have a Schengen visa in order for them to be allowed to enter and stay in their territories. Schengen visas are issued by a country’s embassy or consulate. If a certain country which is part of the Schengen agreement does not have a consulate or embassy, interested applicants can get a Schengen visa at another Schengen member’s embassy or consulate which represents the other.

Before, Philippine passport holders who wanted to go to Hungary had to apply for a visa at the Hungarian Embassy in Jakarta, Indonesia. This was the procedure when Hungary was still not a member of the Schengen agreement. Philippine passport holders can now get a Schengen visa to be able to travel to Hungary at the Embassy of Belgium in Manila. The Belgian Embassy started representing Hungary for the issuance of Schengen visas for as of October in 2009. All visa applications at the Belgian Embassy are only allowed by appointment. The Schengen visa may be used by Philippine passport holders who will only stay in Hungary for a maximum of 90 days.

Schengen visa requirements:

  1. Philippine passport (valid for 3 months more than date of planned travel)
  2. 2 completed Schengen visa application
  3. 2 passport-size photographs (colored, white background, attached to application form)
  4. Visa application fee of €60.00 (paid in Philippine peso according to rates set by Belgian Embassy)
  5. Proof of financial capability:
    1. certificate of employment (original)
    2. bank statements (past 3 months)
    3. certificate or business registration (original)
  6. For tourists:
    1. certified travel reservations or itinerary
  7. For educational, scientific or professional travel:
    1. Proof of accommodation in Hungary
    2. Certificate or invitation letter from host organization or institution
  8. For visiting friends:
    1. Invitation letter from host obtained from the Office of Immigration and Nationality in Hungary
    2. Proof of identification or passport of host in Hungary
  9. For visiting relatives:
    1. Invitation letter from relative/s obtained from the Office of Immigration and Nationality in Hungary
    2. Personal information and contact details of relative/s in Hungary
    3. For visiting graves of deceased relatives, proof that relative is buried in Hungary
  10. For business travelers:
    1. Invitation letter from partners or host in Hungary
    2. Proof of accommodations in Hungary
    3. business certificate from local chamber of commerce
  11. For medical treatment:
    1. Letter or certificate from Hungarian medical institution with details of medical treatment and availability
    2. Proof of accommodations in Hungary
    3. Proof of medical treatment expenses coverage
  12. For cultural activities or sports events:
    1. Invitation letter from host in Hungary
    2. certification from cultural organization or sports committee or office
  13. For conference or seminar attendance:
    1. Invitation letter from host organization in Hungary
    2. Certification of registration for seminar or conference
    3. Registration fee receipt
  14. For transit purposes:
    1. Approved visa to the country of destination (if applicable)
    2. Proof of travel reservations (airline tickets, travel itinerary)

  • The Belgian Embassy in Manila, upon advice from The Belgian Embassy in Jakarta, may require an applicant to be interviewed.
  • Visa fees are to be paid in cash using Philippine peso according to the exchange rate used by The Belgian Embassy in Manila. A list of current rates can be found here.
  • Visa application fees are non-refundable once paid
