Visa Requirements for UK Passport Holders – Portugal (Portuguese Republic)

As EU nationals, British citizens are allowed to enter Portugal and stay as tourists for up to 3 months without a visa. Those with intentions to stay longer must apply for a Registration Certificate from the local Camara Municipal (Town Hall). Applications for Registration Certificate may also be lodged at the nearest office of the Serviço de Estrangeiros e Fronteiras (Portuguese immigration authority).

There is no minimum passport validity set for British citizens; however it is highly recommended that travelers ensure that their passports are valid for the duration of stay in Portugal. It is also strongly advised to contact carriers to confirm their passport validity requirement for passengers.

Aside from their passports, foreigners should carry with them upon arrival at a port of entry proof of sufficient funds to cover their expenses for the duration of stay in Portugal, proof of accommodations, and confirmed tickets for return or onward travel.

The above-mentioned can change at any time. British travelers are urged to contact the Portuguese Embassy in advance of planned travel to obtain the most current information concerning visa, entry and exit requirements.
