British nationals intending to travel to Azerbaijan are required to present valid passport and visa. Passports should be valid for at least six months upon entry to Azerbaijan. Visas should be applied for before the intended travel since it is no longer possible to obtain visas at the Baku International Airport. It is required for your sponsor (person or organization inviting you) to furnish the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) with a letter of invitation on your behalf. Once the invitation letter is approved MFA will then authorize the Embassy of Azerbaijan in London to issue the visa.
As a rule, Azerbaijan permits all foreign nationals to stay for up to three months. If you have the intention of staying longer than three months, you should apply for an official ID card from the local police station.
To avoid overstaying, check the duration of your visa immediately upon issuance. If needed, you can apply for a visa extension at the State Migration Service (SMS). SMS office is located at 53 Ataturk Avenue, Baku. Contact Number: + 994 (0)12 5618754). Visa can be extended up to three months.
In the event of overstaying, an Exit Permit can be secured at SMS office 48 hours before you depart. Exit Permit costs between AZN300 and AZN400 and can be remitted at the SMS office in 2020 Binagadi Highway or at SMS desk at the airport.
