In 1994, Gramercy Tavern, a member of Danny Meyer’s Union Square Hospitality Group, opened in New York and it features the rebirth of the classic American tavern which offers refined, contemporary American cuisine. Their Main Dining Room is open for lunch from Monday through Friday at noon until 2:00PM. Dinner is served at 5:30 to 10:00PM every Sunday through Thursday, and 5:30 to 11:00PM every Friday and Saturday. The Tavern is open from noon until 11:00PM Sunday through Thursday and noon until midnight on Friday and Saturday. It is located at 42 East 20th Street between Park Avenue South and Broadway.
The restaurant walls are covered with murals by the artist Robert Kushner and decorated with lively floral arrangements done by Roberta Bendavid. The ambiance is enhanced by candles and copper scones. Around the restaurant, you will also see American antiques which add more flair and drama to the décor.
To say that Gramercy Tavern is beautiful is an understatement, because the beauty of the entire restaurant does not only rely on its physical structure, but most of all in the dishes that they serve. It has been in existence for quite some time but the quality and value of their food remained the same, if not even better. It is still undoubtedly one of the best choices around New York. Gramercy Tavern is a top notch restaurant which offers a very relaxed front area and bar and a formal dining area up until the rear of the entire area. To say the least, the whole place is very nicely presented.
The waitstaff are all very pleasant and always seem genuinely helpful. They are extremely friendly and willing to give assistance in any way they can. The full dining experience is definitely made complete by the impressive service the staff extends to their guests at all times.
Gramercy Tavern’s uses local produce and the menu is always inspired by the seasons. What makes the food outstanding are the fine and high quality ingredients used. The dishes have bold flavors and are presented in such a refined manner. The Tavern offers a different set of menu which includes appetizers, entrées and desserts while the main dining area offers a wider selection of lunch and dinner a la cartes, lunch and dinner tasting menus and of course lunch and dinner desserts. They also have a selection of cheeses, wines and spirits which go perfectly well together, plus cocktails and beer.
Those who wish to hold business or special occasion functions may utilize their private dining which can seat up to 22 people. This would offer a fine and intimate setting with a single long table which acts as the room’s main centerpiece. The private dining room is set underneath a wood-beamed ceiling and rustic chandeliers.
Dining at the Gramercy Tavern is a total experience that you would never forget. The food, the place and the service are all impeccable and are definitely something worth coming back for.
