Leonard’s Bakery

Leonard’s Bakery in Honolulu, Hawaii was established in 1952 by the husband and wife team of Leonard and Margaret Rego. Leonard’s parents were originally from Portugal and sailed to Maui in 1882 to work in sugar cane fields. The bakery started as a small shop until it grew to what it is today. A few years after the bakery opened, Leonard’s mother suggested that they make Malasadas, an authentic Portuguese delicacy – and it was an instant hit. People, local and tourists, love the Malasadas so much that it has become one of the favorites.

Aside from Malasadas, Leonard’s Bakery offers Pao Doce sweetbread loaves, pastries, cakes and breads. These delicious treats are baked on a daily basis to guarantee freshness.

For the Malasadas, Leonard’s Bakery creates one with Plain sugar and the other with Cinnamon sugar. They also have yummy Malasada Puffs with choice of custard, haupia or dobash filling. There are 8 delightful doughnut varieties customers can choose from. These are Long John (long jelly doughnut filled with delicious custard), chocolate-glazed, chocolate-glazed with sprinklers, glazed doughnut, glazed doughnut holes, donut twist and apple fritter. Donut lovers will surely love these selections.

Leonard’s Bakery also serves mouthwatering pastries and Danish. These include Apricot Custard Tart, Cream Puff, Banana Square and Apricot Custard Strudel, Éclair, Brownie and more. The Danish flavors are Lemon, Guava, Apple, Custard, Apricot, Cinnamon and Strawberry.

Customers should also try the heavenly cookies that Leonard’s bakes. They have Chocolate Chips, Peanut Butter Brownie, Coconut Macaroons, Shortbread Cookies and more. These may look and sound like the usual cookies until you sink your teeth into one and discover how delightful, sweet and different these creations are.

Delectable cakes are also available as well as pies. Try and bring home some Strawberry or Chocolate Bavarian Cake, Dobash Cake, and many more.

To fully enjoy these sweet treats, pair them with coffee, espresso, cappuccino, hot tea or hot chocolate.
