Levain Bakery launched in 1995 in Manhattan’s Upper Westside where they create artisanal bread. In time, their menu has grown and they now serve several kinds of cookies including their legendary six-ounce cookies, brioche and muffins just to name a few. But even if they have expanded their menu, they still remain to be a neighborhood place wherein everything you see is handmade onsite and made fresh every day. The story on how Levain Bakery is as interesting as their products. When founders Connie McDonald and Pam Weekes were training for Ironman in 1994, they both started craving calories and began dreaming about many delicious things. This is how they discovered that they not only share the same passion for sports but also for food. This brought them to unending talks about chocolate chip cookies and eventually led them to come up with their signature product which is the six-ounce chocolate chip walnut cookie. It was in 1995 when they both decided to leave their current jobs to finally put-up and open Levain Bakery to the public.

Their very famous six-ounce chocolate chip walnut cookie is made from very fresh ingredients, packed with semi-sweet chocolate chips and chunks of walnut. The huge, thick, gooey and crispy on the outside cookie will surely make you beg for more. Aside from the signature cookie, they also have Dark Chocolate Chocolate Chip Cookies made from extra dark French cocoa and semi-sweet chocolate chips. This one is truly made to satisfy a chocolate lover’s dream. Another one of their products is the Oatmeal Raisin Cookie made from rolled oats and raisins which perfectly complement each other. This is a must-try even for the none-oatmeal cookie lovers. One product that has a very exciting twist to it is their Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Chip Cookies. Just the name says a whole lot! It is made from a combination of dark chocolate where you can get the sweet taste and peanut butter chips which adds savor to the taste.

Although they cannot share their top secret recipes, the next best thing is for your recipe to be featured in their website because they actually do that. Some patrons of Levain Bakery tried their own recipes and openly want to share their version of some of Levain Bakery’s products.
