Visa Requirements for US Passport Holders – Maldives (Republic of Maldives)

US passport holders are issued a no-cost visa which is valid for 30 days upon arrival at an airport in Maldives. However, a current and valid passport, proof of sufficient funds and return or onward airline tickets are required for visitors to be granted entry. Travelers who are able to present further evidence of sufficient funds and a letter from a local sponsor or are staying in a resort/hotel may be granted an extension of stays for a maximum of 90 days by the Department of Immigration and Emigration.

Those arriving by private boats or yachts are issued no-cost visas which are valid until the expected date of departure. Prior clearance through agents in Male is required of vessels anchoring in atolls other than Male. All vessels will be met upon arrival by Maldivian customs, police and/or representatives of Maldivian immigration no matter where they anchor.

Without the express permission of the Government of Maldives, tourists are prohibited from visiting non-resort islands with the exception of the capital, Male.

It is the US traveler’s responsibility to obtain up-to-date visa requirement information by contacting:
