US citizens who would like to travel to Togo are required to obtain visas. These may be obtained upon arrival at the airport in Lomé or at some land borders. For visas on arrival, visitors will need to fill out an application form, provide a passport photograph and 15,000 FCFA (the equivalent of approximately US$30). These are only valid for 7 days and can take an hour or more to be processed. Securing visas upon arrival can be difficult; therefore, US citizens are advised to obtain their visas before traveling to Togo by submitting the following to the Togolese Embassy in Washington, DC (address provided below).
- Fully accomplished and duly signed visa application form.
- US passport with minimum of 6 months validity beyond the duration of stay in Togo.
- Prepaid, self-addressed return envelope.
- Visa fee of US$140.
It is strongly advised that US citizens carry their passports and vaccination records (against yellow fever) with them at all times while in Togo. Local officials randomly question foreigners and it will be better to have proof of identity, citizenship and required vaccinations at hand.
US passport holders should confirm the information concerning visa and entry requirements before embarking on their trip, as these are subject to change without prior notice.
